Your training in and experience with Microsoft Access has provided you with a solid foundation for working with this database software. In the previous course in this series, you began to implement some of the more specialized and advanced capabilities that Access offers. You are now ready to extend your knowledge base beyond the user level and into introductory-level administrator skill sets.
You will extend your Access skills to create and implement switchboard forms, to develop data access pages that include advanced controls, to protect that information using security protocols, and to make your data more accessible and portable. Then you will take the next step up to the world of VBA programming.
Access 2002: Level 4 is for students who have a thorough understanding of the basic and advanced user features of the Access program, and are interested in developing introductory-level administrator skill sets. The course is also for the student that may be working in a multi-user environment and will need to adapt Access applications to the environment. It is also designed for students pursuing the Microsoft MOUS Expert Level Certification for Access 2002.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
create and modify a database switchboard, and set and modify your startup options.
develop a data access page and include in it a PivotTable and PivotChart.
distribute a database and add security features to it.
integrate Access more fully into your business operations.
automate a business process using VBA.
The course is designed for the student who has mastered the basic Access 2002 user skills covered in Levels 1 through 3 of this training series, such as designing and creating relational databases, running queries to find information, creating customized forms and reports, understanding the principles of table relationships and referential integrity, integrating data with other applications, modifying a table design to control data entry, finding data with filters and queries, customizing forms and reports, and creating data access pages. In addition, the student should understand the advanced Access 2002 skills, including how to structure existing data, summarize data, simplify tasks with macros, and add interaction and automation with macros.

Your training in and use of Access has provided you with a solid foundation in the basic and intermediate skills for working in Access. You’re now ready to extend your knowledge into some of the more specialized and advanced capabilities.
You will use advanced capabilities of Access to work with improperly structured data, perform summary operations on data, create macros to automate tasks, enhance forms and reports, and use Access data in other Office applications.
This course targets persons who have job responsibilities that include structuring existing data into properly designed tables, analyzing data, automating work in Access, implementing advanced form and report capabilities, and using Access tools. Persons who have some or all of these responsibilities and who perform these tasks for their own work or in support of less-advanced Access users.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
put existing data into correctly designed tables and compact your database.
use a variety of techniques to summarize data.
create and revise basic Access macros.
create macros that require data entry in certain fields and automatic data entry in others.
use advanced features to enhance forms.
use advanced features to enhance reports and distribute a report to non-Access users.
use Office Links to use Access data in other Office programs.
To ensure your success, we recommend you first take the following Element K courses or have equivalent knowledge:
Access 2002 Level 1
Access 2002 Level 2

As you begin this course, you should have the basic skills you need to design and create relational databases with Access. At this point, you’re about knee-deep in Access. You’re able to get started and work through many of the essential and straightforward tasks related to your work. You might be hopeful that no one will ever ask for anything too complicated! This course takes you to the next step. By the end of it, you’ll be “waist-deep” and more fully able to put the power of database computing to work for you. You will have a handle on many intermediate-level skills, particularly those related to creating more complex queries, customizing your forms and reports, and broadening the availability of your data.
You will learn intermediate Access 2002 skills, including how to enhance your database designs by using the principles of table relationships and referential integrity, integrate data with other applications, modify a table design to control data entry, find data with filters and queries, customize forms and reports, and create data access pages.
This course targets persons who use Access 2002 as a tool for getting their work done. Your responsibilities might include creating and/or revising the design of tables, queries, forms, reports, and data access pages. This course also serves as a prerequisite for persons interested in learning more advanced skills and features.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
share data with other applications and enforce referential integrity.
modify the design of a table to streamline data entry and maintain data integrity
use a filter to show you records in a datasheet or a form that match whatever conditions you specify, and you will generate different query results by creating different types of joins between tables.
create select queries that display special records and you will design other types of queries, including parameter and action queries.
create forms and change their designs to enhance the appearance and usability of a form and to make your form more professional.
create reports and change their designs to better organize and summarize information and to improve the appearance by enhancing data layout and working with report pagination.
create and work with data access pages.
Students enrolling in this course should have a basic level of understanding of the Access 2000 interface and should have experience designing tables, simple queries, forms, and reports. To ensure your success, we recommend you first take the following PTR course or have equivalent knowledge:
