AIX System Administration I - Implementation - 5 days

This course is designed for delegates who are responsible for system administration duties on an AIX system running on IBM RS/6000 hardware. This course enables delegates to install, customise and administer the AIX operating system in a multi-user environment. For students studying towards IBM AIX certification this course provides the core knowledge for exam 181 (IBM Certified Specialist: AIX Administration).

Delegates should be familiar with basic information technology. They should be able to login to an AIX system and set a user password, execute basic AIX commands, manage files and directories, use the vi editor, use redirection, pipes and tees, use utilities find and grep, use command and variable substitution and set Korn Shell variables. This knowledge can be gained by attending AC13GB (AIX Basics (Condensed)).

AIX System Administration III - Performance Management - 5 days

This course is designed for System Administrators. It provides delegates with the skills to monitor, analyse and tune AIX subsystems for optimal performance including concepts, strategy and implementation of the AIX Workload Manager.

Delegates should be experienced System Administrators and should have previously attended AU14GB (AIX System Administration I: Implementation) and AU16GB (AIX System Administration II: Problem Determination).

AIX System Administration II - Problem Determination - 5 days

This course is designed for system administrators with at least three months experience in AIX and with other relevant education. This course will enable delegates to enhance their system administration skills to maximise the availability of the RS/6000, determine the causes and solutions associated with system problems, create a secure system and perform advanced tasks not available through SMIT.

For students studying towards IBM AIX certification this course provides the core knowledge for exam 189 (IBM Certified Specialist: AIX Support).

Delegates should be familiar with various system administration tasks. They should be able to use the basic tools and commands available to help with system administration such as, SMIT, WebSM, VSM, grep, find, mail, chmod and 1s. Delegates must be able to perform basic file manipulation and file system navigation. They must be able to define basic file system and LVM terminology and carry out basic system installation activities including the setup of printers, disks, terminals, users and software. Finally, delegates must be able to manage AIX processes. This knowledge can be gained by attending AC13GB (AIX Basics (Condensed)) and AU14GB (AIX System Administration I : Implementation).

AIX System Administration V - Work Load Manager - 3 days

This course is designed for System Administrators responsible for the performance management of AIX Systems. This course teaches delegates how to configure and administer the AIX Work Load Manager.

Before attending this course delegates must have at least one year of commercial AIX system administration experience. It is recommended that they have previously attended AU14GB (AIX System Administration I : Implementation), AU16GB (AIX System Administration II : Problem Determination) and AU18GB (AIX System Administration III : Performance and Workload Management).

AIX TCPIP Communications - Condensed - 3 days

This course is intended for Network Administrators or other personnel who are responsible for the configuration, use and support of TCP/IP and common network services such as DNS and NFS on an IBM RISC System/6000 system running AIX Version 5L. Delegates will learn how to implement and static routing, DNS, NFS and automounter.

For delegates studying towards IBM AIX certification, this course provides core knowledge for tests 181 (IBM Certified Specialist - AIX Administrator) and 189 (IBM Certified Specialist - AIX Support).

AIX Basics - 3 days

This course is designed for System Administrators and end-users that are new to the AIX Operating System. On this course delegates will learn how to accomplish basic tasks such as creating, organising and removing files, using electronic mail and text editors, printing and monitoring their processes. Delegates learn to accomplish these tasks through the command line interface.

For students studying towards IBM AIX certification, this introductory level course provides the pre-requisite knowledge for the AIX System and Network Administration courses.

Delegates should be familiar with basic information technology (IT) concepts and the role of an operating system. Experience of another operating system would also be beneficial.
